Today, November 1, 2026, I reached another milestone in my software development work with J03Curator v1.0, a command-line application I developed using C++ and Qt 6. J03Curator helps organize software development projects, maintain project records using SQLite, inspect Git repositories, and prepare project materials for review and publication. One of my goals was to make the application available to other Linux users through the Snap Store under the Apache License 2.0. Getting there required more than simply compiling the program. My computer runs Manjaro Linux, and Snapcraft could not build the Ubuntu 24.04 package directly in destructive mode. I worked around that limitation by using Canonical’s Launchpad remote-build service, which successfully produced an AMD64 Snap package. I also made improvements to how J03Curator handles home-directory paths so it would not depend entirely on my personal computer’s directory structure.
After building the application, I tested the Snap locally and verified that it could locate my existing SQLite database and Git repository. The j03curator status command completed successfully, and I confirmed that the database’s checksum remained unchanged. I also discovered that the Snap Store required additional review because J03Curator uses classic confinement, which allows the application broader access to the filesystem. An initial upload revealed an unnecessary home plug, so I removed it, rebuilt the package through Launchpad, and uploaded the corrected version as Snap Store revision 2. The application is now uploaded to Canonical’s Snap Store, but it is awaiting classic-confinement approval before public release. This experience has taught me more about Linux packaging, dependency management, software testing, GitHub publication, and the importance of maintaining reliable recovery backups. Once approval is granted and the release is published, I hope other developers will find J03Curator useful for organizing and maintaining their own software projects.
