This week, I took an important step forward in my cybersecurity journey by applying for a Cybersecurity Analyst position with San Diego Unified School District. After years of providing hands-on technical support as a Network Systems Technician, I’m excited to pursue a role that aligns more closely with my education and long-term goals in cybersecurity.
I’ve spent over a decade supporting school sites, troubleshooting network issues, imaging devices, and helping staff and parents navigate technology. Along the way, I’ve also completed my Master of Science in Cybersecurity, specializing in Ethical Hacking and Pen Testing, which gave me deeper knowledge of risk management, audit procedures, and defensive strategies.
While updating my application, I made sure to stay grounded in honesty. I answered every question with accuracy—highlighting what I’ve done on the job, and what I’ve learned through formal training. In some areas, I simply wrote “N/A” where I didn’t have experience. I believe that’s how growth happens: by knowing what you’ve done, and being ready for what’s next.
I’ll be meeting with my job coach next week to review next steps. Whether or not this position is the one, I’m committed to building a cybersecurity career that reflects my passion for protecting systems, supporting users, and staying ready to learn.
