Extension Name: membership13 Research Log
Contact: we6jbo@gmail.com
Overview
membership13 Research Log is a private research-log browser extension. Its purpose is to help the user import, store, review, capture, and export membership13 research records. The extension is designed as an offline-first research database.
This privacy policy explains what information the extension may collect, how that information is used, and how the user controls the information.
Information the Extension May Collect
The extension may collect and store the following information when the user chooses to use its features:
- Research log records
The extension may import and store a bundled JSON research database or a JSON file selected by the user. - Website content selected by user action
When the user clicks “Capture current tab as a new record,” the extension may collect the active tab’s page title, URL, headings, visible page text, and related page metadata. - Web history-style information selected by user action
Because captured records may include page URLs, page titles, and capture timestamps, the extension may store information about pages the user intentionally captured. - Personally identifiable information contained in research records
Imported or captured research records may include names, family history details, dates, locations, or other personally identifiable information if that information appears in the user’s research database or on a page the user chooses to capture. - Location-related information contained in research records
Research records may include a location label or research location, such as a library or research site, if included by the user or in the imported database.
How Information Is Used
The extension uses collected information only for its single purpose: providing a private offline membership13 research log.
The extension may use stored information to:
- Display saved research records.
- Store imported JSON records locally.
- Capture the active tab only when the user clicks the capture button.
- Export the research database as JSON, JSONL, or CSV.
- Help the user maintain research continuity across devices by manually exporting and importing files.
Local Storage
The extension stores research records locally in Chrome storage. The data remains on the user’s browser unless the user chooses to export it.
The extension does not automatically upload, sell, or transmit research records.
Exports
The extension allows the user to export the research database as JSON, JSONL, or CSV. These exports occur only when the user clicks an export button.
Once exported, the user controls where the exported file is saved, uploaded, shared, or stored.
Active Tab Capture
The extension uses active tab access only when the user clicks “Capture current tab as a new record.” It does not monitor browsing automatically. It does not read tabs in the background. It does not collect keystrokes, mouse movements, passwords, cookies, or full browser history.
Remote Code
The extension does not use remote code. All JavaScript, HTML, CSS, icons, and bundled JSON files are included inside the extension package. The extension does not load or execute scripts from external servers, CDNs, Google Drive, or other remote locations.
Data Sharing
The extension does not sell user data.
The extension does not transfer user data to third parties, except when the user manually exports data and chooses what to do with that exported file.
The extension does not use or transfer user data for advertising, analytics, creditworthiness, lending, or unrelated purposes.
Data Security
The extension is designed to keep research records local to the browser unless the user manually exports them. Users should protect exported files because exported JSON, JSONL, or CSV files may contain personal research information.
User Control
The user can:
- Import a JSON research database.
- Capture the current tab manually.
- Export the database.
- Clear the local database.
- Uninstall the extension to remove extension data from the browser, subject to Chrome’s normal extension storage behavior.
Children’s Privacy
This extension is not intended for children. It is a private research-log tool.
Changes to This Policy
This privacy policy may be updated if the extension changes. Any future version should describe any new data collection, storage, export, or sharing behavior.
