John McCabe Family History: Pittsburgh Census Records and McCabe Origins

Today I researched part of my McCabe family line connected to TG628417, focusing on John McCabe, who was born on February 9, 1896 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Historical census records show John living with his parents in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, an area that grew rapidly during the industrial era of the United States. Genealogy research like this helps trace how families moved, worked, and settled across America during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

The strongest record confirming this family connection is the United States Census of 1900, which lists Edward McCabe, born March 1861 in Scotland, as the head of the household. Living with him was his wife Sarah Ann McAvoy, whose birthplace is recorded as England, along with their young son John McCabe, age four. Census documents preserved by the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) are some of the most valuable historical sources for genealogists because they record family relationships, birthplaces, immigration patterns, and occupations.

Researching families like the McCabe family of Pittsburgh helps reveal the larger story of immigration and settlement in America. Edward McCabe’s Scottish origins and Sarah McAvoy’s English background show how immigrant families built new lives in Pennsylvania during the industrial expansion of cities like Pittsburgh. I will continue researching additional records, including later census documents and other historical sources, to strengthen the documentation for TG628417 and the McCabe family line.
