TG903148: Following Amelia Caroline Luedtke and the Hedtke Line

In this post, I am following the line from Robert Richard Hedtke back to Amelia Caroline Luedtke. Robert Richard Hedtke was born on January 18, 1876, in Arlington, Sibley County, Minnesota, and died on February 13, 1954, in Fresno County, California. The strongest part of this line is that Robert appears as a child in the August and Amelia Hedtke household in the 1880 census, and FamilySearch also shows Robert as the son of August Ferdinand Hedtke and Amelia Caroline Luedtke. That part looks solid.

The next step is Amelia Caroline Luedtke. The notes support her as the wife of August Frederick Hedtke, and the newspaper index wording for Amelia Caroline Hedtke, née Luedtke, helps support her maiden name. That means the Robert-to-Amelia connection looks strong. Amelia herself is treated in these notes as a proven person, and that is reasonable from the sources listed here. The hard part is not Amelia’s identity. The hard part is proving exactly who her parents were.

Right now, the connection from Amelia Caroline Luedtke back to Martin Luedtke is still not established strongly enough from the sources listed here. It may be correct, and it may fit the larger family pattern, but I do not yet have a record in these notes that directly names Martin Luedtke and Dorothea Schuessel as Amelia’s parents. So the careful wording is this: Robert Richard Hedtke was the son of August Ferdinand Hedtke and Amelia Caroline Luedtke, but the Martin-to-Amelia connection still needs stronger proof before I would call it established.
