The Bowman family story begins in Morgan County, Indiana in the nineteenth century. Thomas Bowman, the third son of Abel and Mary Bowman, was born in 1862 and became a farmer in the area. He married Nancy Lambert, who was born 8 June 1864 in Morgan County. Together they built their lives in the Indiana countryside during a period when farming communities shaped much of the region’s daily life.
Thomas and Nancy Bowman had three children: Polly (Myrtle), Venza, and Raymon. Their daughter Polly Bowman was born 18 May 1887 in Morgan County. She later married Jason Bryant and became part of a new generation of the Bowman family. One branch of the family remained in Indiana, including her daughter Beatrice Stiles of Mooresville.
Polly Bowman Bryant eventually moved to Southern California, connecting the Bowman family’s Indiana origins with later generations in the American West. She died in Southern California on 27 June 1955. Her life reflects a family story that begins in rural Indiana and continues through migration, family connections, and the preservation of historical records across generations.
