Today’s deep dive into infrastructure security covered everything from SCADA/ICS systems to RTOS environments, thanks to Professor Messer’s CompTIA Security+ SY0-701 video on Infrastructure Concepts (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDiNPPrGhzE). SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems manage critical industrial controls but should never be exposed to the public internet. These systems are vital in sectors like oil refinement, where high availability (HA) configurations—such as dual firewalls—are critical to prevent costly downtime.
I also explored RTOS (Real-Time Operating Systems), which power military gear, medical devices, and automotive systems. Unlike traditional OSs, RTOS handles tasks with precise timing. While not common in homes, developers can test RTOS using free platforms like FreeRTOS or Zephyr. These embedded systems show up in everything from smartwatches to traffic lights.
Containerization is another topic I reviewed—Docker, which simplifies application deployment using containers, is free and open-source under the Apache 2.0 license. It was created by Solomon Hykes and is a key tool for scalable DevOps workflows.
On the career front, I’m looking into bilingual help desk and IT support roles. I found a promising call center job that only requires Spanish fluency—a skill I’m actively developing. Many roles in the tech support field now expect multilingual communication, especially in global or diverse markets.
