Code and Climb: Weekend Reflections

Yesterday, I spent time building a flashcard app using Android Studio. It features a flip-through system of words, images, and pronunciations designed to help with language learning. My interest in programming began back in middle school, and I followed that passion by earning a certificate in computer programming at Mesa College around 2003. Revisiting that foundation through modern tools like Android Studio has been both nostalgic and empowering. You can preview the app’s current state here, and I’m hosting the project on GitHub for others to explore and contribute.

This morning, I hiked up Cowles Mountain and made the round trip in just over 35 minutes. The trail gave me space to think and appreciate how far I’ve come—physically and mentally. There’s something grounding about alternating between hours of focused coding and a heart-pounding trek to the summit. These routines, old and new, remind me that steady progress is the key to growth in all areas of life.
