The job search process in cybersecurity is challenging, but I’m feeling great about my progress. I’ve identified four new jobs that I’ll be applying for tomorrow, keeping my momentum strong. The biggest challenge has been finding roles that don’t require a security clearance or certifications I haven’t yet obtained. However, my Security+ course at San Diego Continuing Education has been going well—I’m consistently scoring 90% on my tests thanks to my prior knowledge from my master’s program at National University.
Right now, I’m exploring roles in network administration and system administration. Jobs involving networking equipment, routers, and the IOS shell interest me, and I’ve also found promising opportunities with MTS and the City of San Diego. To stay organized, I use Notion.io to track my applications, attach resumes and cover letters, and mark submissions. It syncs with my phone, making job tracking seamless.
Earning my Security+ certification is my top priority—it’s a $404 investment, but I’m confident I’ll pass. After that, I plan to pursue CySA+ to expand my expertise. I’ve also joined a Discord group for CySA+ where I’ll participate in competitions to refine my skills. AI, particularly ChatGPT, has been a game-changer in refining my resume and optimizing my job search strategy.
Looking ahead, I’m focused on refining my job application system and continuing my structured daily routine—hiking, library study sessions, and classwork. Hiking and church help me stay balanced and motivated. I’ve even written my Lenten devotional, reinforcing my sense of achievement. With my plans in place, I’m ready for what’s next in my cybersecurity journey.
