Today was another productive step in my journey toward a cybersecurity career. I started the day at the Clairemont Library, where I focused on job applications using Notion to stay organized. One highlight was applying for an Application Penetration Tester role, which involves conducting security assessments and mentoring teams globally. I tailored my resume and submitted the application with a preference for several cities, including San Diego.
Later, I applied for an IT Support Specialist position through a government jobs portal. As part of the application, I disclosed my learning disability, which I have embraced as part of my unique perspective and strength. Still, it made me reflect on hiring policies and how disability disclosures are treated—something I continue to navigate thoughtfully.
Throughout the process, I leveraged ChatGPT for assistance, especially in crafting responses to application questions. For example, when asked why I was exploring new opportunities, I emphasized my desire for growth and my technical skills aligning with community-focused organizations like the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System.
As the evening wraps up, I plan to continue my Security+ study by watching relevant videos. Staying focused on my goals while balancing learning and self-reflection has been key to my progress. Here’s to taking steps forward, one application and one lesson at a time.
